The Scam:

From what I've read online there are a lot of these post cards going around with varying catch phrases including "we've been going nuts trying to contact you" with a picture of a couple nuts running around.

If they can get you to call, they try to sell you magazine subscriptions so you can enter a contest of some sort. From what I can tell these people aren't too malicious. But I wouldn't waste my time calling.

Yea, I called and they got me to sign up for magazines at 39.88/mo and they told me that once I committed to the order that I couldn't cancel it, but they could lower my payments to 24 something. So after about 15 min of the lady telling me how stupid I am she finally told me that she would cancel them even though she could get in trouble for doing it. So yea, definitely don't call. They were not very nice about my misunderstanding what they were selling.

Thanks for posting this. I also got this in the mail and googled it to figure out what on earth this was. I probably would have called had you not posted this to figure out. Thanks again for saving me from trouble!

I got this call like this on my cell phone and they asked me two questions to sign up for a contest for winning a a cash prize and BMW and such.

I answered the two questions and then they tried me to sign up to a magazine subscription and I'd get a free watch. When I said no they tried to buy some my girl/boyfriend. I said I didn't have one.

After that to convince me to get some for my mom. I told him my mother had passed away but I guess he didn't hear me and kept going on. I said it a second time and then he asked what about my dad. I told him that had passed too and then he said good day.

Hopefully I didn't screw myself up because I gave the guy the number on the card, but I had started the call by saying, "I am not calling for whatever you are selling; I am calling to ask you to take me off of your mailing list." He asked me if I had called before and I said no, but I just read online (this site, but I didn't tell him that) that this was all a scam. He asked me about what I had found and if the company he was at was on the list of ones that I found. I said yes and he asked me for the number. I asked him if this was going to do anything besides give my name and address (because he needed to know who to take off of the list). He said it would not. I gave him the number and he said "Consider it done, sweetie." meaning that he removed it, and then hung up. Hopefully I won't get charged for anything and that it really did take me off.

i live in new york and i just got the same type of post card via mail and the card has a different charter on the front mine had a news paper saying "good news" but i called the number and they told me "you have been selected to join our raffle and could win 250,000,000 dollars!" thats when i thought "sure" so i wanted to see how much they wanted to get me to give some info so they transfer me to a clams person and guess how long i had to wait.......10 seconds! wow right thats the fastest response I've ever had. so i hung up once that happened. now im going to call channel 5 to let people know about this scam. and im going to call my credit card company and tell them that there firewalls are not strong enough.
